The fairytale continues for our oilfield family!
Some of you ladies may recall my post earlier in the year about listing our home for sale. I love my sweet little town of Grand Junction, CO but I would be lying if I did not say that the economy, real estate market included is still down all together. After having our home on the market for about a month, it became very apparent that we would not be selling for what we wanted and if we did sell we would be taking a loss. After prequalifying for a second home and keeping our current home as a rental property, I can now officially add the title Landlord to my many roles and titles of Oilfield Wife, Working Mommy, Taxi Service, Accountant, Bill Payer, Grocery Shopper, Dog Groomer, and the list goes on. We close on our new home the end of this month and our renters will be moving into their new home next month.
Besides decorating and furniture, one of the most exciting things for this oilfield wife is landscaping! I love to garden, mow the yard, and just get my hands dirty, so getting to completely design and jump in with all of our new landscaping has me super giddy! Our family spends about 90% of our time outside year around! I love being in the sunshine and planting bulbs in the spring, lounging to the sound of our daughter running through the sprinkler in the summer, and enjoying a glass of red wine by the fire on the patio in the fall. Speaking of fires……………..
Like many of you, I am a Pinterest junkie, but most definitely when I have a project in mind. Since we do hang out in our backyard so much, it only made sense to build a fire pit at the new house. Last Mother’s Day, my husband bought me a cheminia, and we have used the heck out of that thing however it will not be making the journey to the new house, in fact it will probably be going straight to the trash can! Word of the wise, our cheminia is a red clay, when we would burn fires in it the entire piece would get extremely hot, then if any moisture touched it including rain sprinkles the entire thing instantly cracked! With every fire we had, baby cracks grew to giant cracks and with giant cracks huge chunks of the thing just started falling off! Awful! I do not recommend them at all! Because of the failed cheminia experience we decided to build a fire pit at the new house. Below is a step by step of our planned outdoor fire pit! We are using cement blocks filled with sand to make the pit deeper than the one shown, but even with that upgrade and all the materials you see this awesome landscaping DIY idea is only about $250!
